I received this book from Amazon and I was very excited when it finally came in the mail. Even at first glance this book is impressive. With more than 450 pages this hard bound book is dense to say the least. The cover and pages are designed to look old tattered and worn, mimicking an aging book and thus contributing to the overall theme found within.

By writing The Pirate Primer, author George Choundas aims to educate his readers about the way in which those Golden-Age rovers communicated. Choundas’s work not only beautify illustrates the way in which pirates spoke, but it also endeavors to enable you as a reader to accurately emulate those swashbuckling rogues of the 17th and 18th centuries. By analyzing and compiling works, both written and acted over the last three centuries, Choundas has effectively created the World’s only written guide to the pirate language.

Readers will find that the Primer is laid out more as a reference text than as a cover to cover novel. The majority of Choundas’s work is centered in Part One of his book. This section focuses on “What to Say.” Filled with easy reference selections separated into categories like: “Greetings,” “Commands,” “Threats,” and “Curses” (and even an entire chapter on the phrase ‘arr’) Choundas has found a simple way in which to present his vast knowledge of the pirate language. The smaller Part Two of his book focuses on “How to Say it,” and concentrates on concepts such as pronunciation, and structural form.

This book is without a doubt a must have for any pirate enthusiast. It has definitely become a staple for my bookshelf.
A full 5 out of 5 stars for this one!
