Blackest Day
February 10th

On February 10th 1722 the great Pirate,
Captain Bartholomew Roberts, was killed by cannon fire during a sea battle. His death shocked the world, as many people at the time regarded him as an invincible terror. Roberts' death was seen as the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.

Blackest Day is a celebration which commemorates
both the death of Captain Roberts,
and
the end of the Golden Age of Piracy.

This day is celebrated throughout the world, some in jubilation, and some in mourning. Each year on this date, The Black Spades march through town, proudly flying his flag. The march ends at the beach, where three shots are fired from the cannon at dusk.
